FUEL @ RIC :: Wednesday Night Bible Study

FUEL @ RIC is a Wednesday Night Bible study. It will begin on Wednesday, July 14 from 6:30pm - 8:00pm in the Cafe (near the vending machines). Every week, we will explore a new topic, what that means for us today, and how we can apply it to our lives.

\\\\\\\\\\

Here is a little history...

This group is led by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) at RIC. We are a closely knit family of students dedicated to following the teachings of Jesus. Though we realize that we are not perfect, we believe in a God who is. We look to build up our friends, campus and the world in ways such as service projects, Bible studies and prayer. We are a community oriented people who seek to give of ourselves to others.

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is open to all RIC students. We welcome those who identify as followers of Jesus, those who may not identify themselves as religious, those who are curious about a God who simply loves, and those seeking to get more involved with improving our campus! We welcome you with open arms to join in the journey with us.

Abundant Life

Hi friends!

Hope that your semester is going well. Keep pressing on! Spring break is just a week away.

I wanted to extend this invitation to you all. This Thursday, March 11, at 7:30pm, InterVarsity will be hosting a discussion (with food!) in the Student Union Room # 307. We will be exploring the topic of Jesus and Wellness, that is, how do we live an "abundant life", what does the word "abundant" mean, and how does "abundance" pertain to our lives?

Hope to see you all on Thursday!
All are welcome.

A Look into the Future

Hi friends,

Thanks to all who came to our meeting on Tuesday night. It was great to gather in a comfortable atmosphere with friends.

We began to dive into the concept of "identity"; that is, how do we identify ourselves? Are we more apt to place our identity in God or in our situations, a person, our work, our talents, etc.? Scripturally, we examined identity in the Bible through Genesis 11 and 12 (The Tower of Babel and Abram's Call to follow God, respectively). In Genesis 11, the people built a tower that reflected their worth and demoted God's worth. They remained in their own town while Abram obeyed God's call to pick up everything and move. Imagine being 75 years old and leaving your town, your friends, and your family for an unknown place? That's exactly the trust which Abram put in God. Not only did he relocate (physically and spiritually), but he paved the way for other Christians 2,000 years later to follow him in a similiar manner.

The challenge this week is to be on the lookout for how people identify themselves. Perhaps we could take this challenge a little further and apply it to ourselves. Do we place our identity in things other than God?

We often gather to pray about things such as this. If you would like to participate in a group prayer, please join us this Friday, February 19, at 10:30am in the IV office, Student Union Room # 428. We have a brief time of worship through music and prayer (either independently or as a group) whichever you feel more comfortable with.

If you missed this week's meeting, no need to fret! We will be having another one next Tuesday, February 23 at 7:00pm in the Student Union. (The location will be announced shortly in an email.) There will be free food, music, and a time of fellowship. Invite your friends!

Speaking of food, we are inviting you all to Adam's Apartment this Saturday, February 20th at 6pm. We will have dinner, games, prayer, and a time to talk about the status of IVCF and our roles as members and friends for each other and the campus community. Please make every effot to attend.

Lastly, please check your emails for the address to Adam's house and upcoming information about events this month. (The student activities fair is on March 3rd at 12:30pm in the SU Ballroom. Come show your support for IVCF and other organizations on campus.)

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Prayer

Hi friends!

Welcome back to a new semester. My prayers are with you throughout this year and it is my hope that we will grow closer together as a fellowship and as a campus community.

Our first core meeting was held on Monday night. We discussed the types of prayer such as petitionary prayer (prayer for onself) and intercessory prayer (prayer for others). We read about Moses' encounter with God in Exodus when he led the Isrealities up out of Egypt. We spent some time in prayer and shared our thoughts as a group.

So, to begin our first online discussion...

-when you hear the word "prayer" what thoughts come to mind?
-what images (pictures) do you see?
-is there a word that resonates within you?

Would you like to participate in a prayer meeting? Then come join us tomorrow, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 12:30pm in the SU Room #428. If you come in late, just quietly open the door.

Hope to see you tomorrow at 12:30pm!
